Limited Government
Because the people are the source of government power, the government has only as much authority as the people give it. Much of the Constitution, in fact, consists of specific limitations on government power. Limited government means that neither the government itself nor any government official is "above the law" and can overstep these constitutional bounds.
How is Limited Government applied today?
Limited Government is applied through the first amendment that prohibits the government to respect our freedoms. The government and all the people in harms way they gave us the freedom. One of the freedoms is that children and other people can go to school on a regular basis. Another thing they gave us is we can worship God in any setting and we can go to church every Sunday according to our religious views. It is applied through limited government because the first amendment gave us rights.
Another reason how limited government is applied today
Limited Government is also applied through the government officials not being above the law. According to Macgruder's Government book the definition of limited government "is that government is restricted in what may do, and each individual has certain rights that government can not take away." The government officials can't be above the law because if they did that the government would probably be not in a good condition or corrupt. It is applied through limited government because no government official can be above the law.
A final example of how limited government is applied
Limited Government is finally applied through federalism that divides power between the national and local governments. The governments of local and national governments can divide everything including a power between each of the local and larger governments.

Ratified in 1791, the Third Amendment to the U.S. Constitution sets forth two basic requirements. During times of peace, the military may not house its troops in private residences without the consent of the owners. During times of war, the military may not house its troops in private residences except in accordance with established legal procedure. By placing these limitations on the private quartering of combatants, the Third Amendment subordinates military authority to civilian control and safeguards against abuses that can be perpetrated by standing armies and professional soldiers". http://www.tomwbell.com/writings/3rd.html
