Popular Sovereignty
The Preamble to the Constitution begins with this bold phrase: "We the people ..." These words announce that in the United States, the people establish government and give it its power. The people are sovereign. Since the government receives its power from the people, it can govern only with their consent.
How is popular sovereignty applied today?
Popular Sovereignty is applied through the constitution. According to Wikipedia "the constitution was created on September 17,1787. It was ratified on June 21,1788. The constitution guides American society in political culture and law. It's the oldest national constitution that the Americans use. It was influenced later by international figures that were establishing national constitutions. According to Macgruder's American Government book "the constitution is a body of fundamental laws setting out the principles, structures, and processes of a government. The constitution brought America together".
Popular Sovereignty is also applied through voting for government official (i.e. The President). The United States of America has a federal government that elects our president. "It is related to the constitution because the people of the United States who are eighteen and older get to vote and if people vote they can change how society works. In the year 1960 the voting age was twenty one but then they changed it to eighteen.
According to dictionary.com the international standards were set by the ISO and its subcommittees. According to the ISO the international standards keep passing to each branch of government. It is related to the constitution because the other branches of government can pass things to each other branch of government. The term is related to the term checks and balances because the other branches of government can check on each other.

The congress adopted the Declaration of Rights and Grievances; it declared that freeborn Englishmen could not be taxed without their consent, and, since the colonists were not represented in Parliament, any tax imposed on them without the consent of their colonial legislatures was unconstitutional.
